PLASTIC FREE SWANSEA

Get Involved

Many local volunteer groups and individuals have been undertaking regular beach litter picks (and other areas such as parks) for years and years. It is true that many more people have become increasingly aware of the scale of plastic litter on local beaches (and indeed worldwide) over the past few months and are keen to help to deal with it. However, the single most important message here is TAKE YOUR LITTER HOME or find a bin.
Because the tide will probably get to it before a beach clean up does!
Clean Up Organisations
Below we list links to some organisations where you can get involved in cleaning up plastic litter and other rubbish in the Swansea area. If you know of any other local group (including friends of parks for example) that do litter picks or would like us to share your event please let us know.

It will be great to get as many businesses, cafes, restaurants etc. as possible signed up to this. Please let us know if you are willing to go around your local businesses to do this. We will provide you with all the information you need.

Great way to make a point
Ok, so this example comes from India, but could be replicated all across the world- especially in Swansea. Read all about it here.
Plastic Free Schools
Pupils at Glyncollen Primary School in Morriston have been busy voicing their thoughts on plastic waste and what needs to be done to help make their school plastic free. Watch their great video here or their blog here.
Plastic Free July
This July The Marine Conservation Society launch their third Plastic Challenge, and it looks like it’ll be bigger than ever. Nearly 8,000 of you and counting have signed up.
Are you ready to #GOPlasticFree?
Plastic pollution in the ocean is causing serious threats to wildlife and even to human health. The plastic that enters our ocean breaks down into tiny pieces and is eaten by small fish, that are eaten by bigger fish, that are eaten by us.
Single-use plastic items, such as plastic bags, cutlery, straws and bottles, have been found in the deepest parts of our ocean, and locked into sea ice at the North and South pole. Shocking images have emerged again and again of the danger plastic items cause to wildlife.
Now it is time for solutions and to take responsibility for what we are doing to our ocean.   Sign up NOW!
